Hiking in Windham, NY
Windham offers some of my favorite hikes but my two favorite hikes are a little difficult. The
Blackhead Range and Windham High Peak are the two I would recommend. Windham is a very
nice town and the town I would recommend spending time in when you are done hiking.
Everyone is very pleasant and the establishments in Windham are very high quality and offer
reasonable prices. To see some of the establishments that I recommend check out the lodging,
places to eat and places to shop pages. The Catskill Lodge has a shuttle that picks people up
in the city and offers hiking tours, wine tours, and country shopping tours. They only have seven
rooms and they book fast on weekends, so call 2 months before you are planning your trip.
Hike #1: Windham High Peak
There is parking near the eastern end of Big Hollow Road.
The trail is off the north side of the road and is over 7 miles
long. You hike about a mile, then need to turn left(west)
once you get to the escarpment trail. You will reach the peak
of Burnt Knob mountain at about the 2.5 mile mark. You will
continue about another mile until you reach the windham
High Peak. If you turn around at the Burnt Knob Peak the
hike is about 5 miles long. This hike is long and will take
time, but it is a great hike with some beautiful views. Once
trail reaches the Escarpment trail the trail becomes very
steep.

Hike #2: Blackhead Range
There is parking at the eastern end of Barnum Rd. This is a 6 mile hike that is difficult and is a
one way hike, so you will need two vehicle. A good way to hike this mountain is to visit the
Catskill Lodge who runs a shuttle bus to the end for you when you are done. They also have
group hikes or you can have a romantic hike with your significant other.
